91st Clun Forest Sheep Society Show & Sale - Ludlow 2015
After a very successful sale last year, the 2015 saw trade back and as always good sheep found a new home easily but the second class rams struggled to make decent prices. A trend which mirrored the poor lamb trade this autumn. However there was a clearance of 90% of rams forward. It was also pleasing to see new breeders offering stock from sale. These included James Thompson (Ranby Hill), Sue Scrivens (Greenway), Kira Newey (Kibee), Gary Phillips (Meadowlands) and Jen Hunter (Halleaths)
The top price of the day peaking at £535.50 for a shearling ram from R.Price, Trewyrlod Flock, Powys, who was second in his class. The ram,Trewyrlod 805, was an excellent breeders ram and certainly had show potential and was purchased by a new breeders Jen & Brian Hunter from Lockerbie, Scotland for her Halleaths Flock.
The rams were judged by Mr. Nigel Williams from Craven Arms, who gave the Overall Championship to a Shearling ram from I.T.Davies and sold for 420 gns to D.Neal
In the female section the trade was also back from last year with a top price paid for a pair of shearling ewes, that included the 1st Prize Single ewe from I.T.Davies, Brecon. They went for £255 each and found a home with face familiar at the summer shows, Del Knowles from the Wrotham Flock, Kent.
Judging the females was Evan Jones, Walton, Powys. He gave the Champion Pen of 10 to regular winner Gordon Roberts of the Furlongs Flock
