94th Clun Forest Sheep Society Show & Sale - Ludlow 2018
The 94th Clun Forest Sheep Breeders Society Show & Sale took place in Ludlow on Friday 14th September 2018 with trade reflecting the current climate for breeding sheep sales. As ever, good quality stock was much in demand.
There were more Females sold this year (123 Pedigree Clun Forest Ewes), with overall clearance rate of 89%. Yearling Ewes were in greatest demand with 97% clearance. The top price saw an huge increase of 46% (£90) on 2017 for a Yearling Ewe from R Vincent & D Searle (Pixie Flock), which sold for a Breed Record for a Clun Shearling Ewe of £285 to Mr D Knowles (Wrotham Flock). All the 2-year-old females that were sold made £140 per head, resulting in a draw for Class 11 between GR Roberts (Furlongs) and W.G.Smith (Burrington)!

In the Male Section there was good clearance of rams (82% of yearlings and 89% of ram lambs) with an average of £250.29 for Shearling Rams, up £10.62 on 2017. The top price was for the Champion, a Pixie bred ram from R Vincent & Searle, selling for £546 to JG Williams (Hopton Flock). The winner of the A.E.Williams Salver for the Best Average of 3 rams went to JET Jones, Walton, with the top 3 at an average of £364. C Hendrie (Midlem) won the best ram lamb which sold for £262.50 to the Judge, N Faulkner (Cerney), however, the highest price Ram Lamb from IT Davies (Honddu Flock) sold for £367.50 to K Davies (Foxglove). There was a 25% increase in the average selling price of ram lambs to £140.
