Inaugural Show & Sale - Carlisle 2025
Judge David Beech with the Champion (Lot 1151 - Right) held by Paul Murray and Reserve Champion (Lot 1165 - Left) held by Geraint Davies.
Despite only a small entry of Cluns at the Inaugural Show and Sale held at Borderway Mart, quality once again caught the attention of bidders to see a new female breed record price set for the third time this summer, smashing the previous record set only two weeks before.
The sale was organised by the Northern and Scottish Regional Group with the intention of raising awareness of the breed in the North where there are a growing number of breeders and saw 11 lots forward from 4 vendors.
David Beech of the Ormerley flock, had the honour of judging the pre sale show, and found his female champion and overall champion in 'Inside Hype Gwen', (lot 1151) an aged ewe from Paul & Lydia Murray of the Inside Hype flock. Gwen was sired by Court Llacca Briton out of a Hayton sired dam and has been show extensively over the summer collecting a swarm of awards including Overall Champion at the Society National Show at Burwarton, GYS 2025 Clun Forest Breed Champion and Cartmel Show Interbreed Champion. She sold to the judge for 1600gns which set a new female breed record price, exceeding the previous record by 1000gns.
Reserve overall champion and male champion went to 'Honddu Gilbert', (lot 1165) a powerful aged ram, brought forward by Paul & Lydia Murray but bred by I.T. Davies & Son of the Honddu flock. With Charben breeding on both sides, 'Gilbert' has made an impact at shows in 2023, 2024 and 2025 winning multiple interbreed titles and being the 2024 Ram of the Year. Reluctantly up for sale due to coming back on his offspring, he attracted bidding up to 700gns but Paul & Lydia felt he was too good to let go so has been retained by the flock.
Reserve female champion went to the winner of the ewe lamb class, (lot 1161) from I.T. Davies & Son of the Honddu flock which sold for 500gns to Paul & Lydia Murray.
Reserve male champion went to winner of the ram lamb class, (lot 1169) from Anna Pennell of the Nipna Flock.
