Saturday 29th August saw our 2nd annual show and sale held at Borderway Mart with a similar entry number of entries as in 2025 and the same top quality.
Judge, Claire Burrough of the Burroway Flock, travelled up from Devon to cast her expert eye over the entries and commented:
“It was my great pleasure to be asked to judge the show. There was a lovely run of quality sheep, all ideal for the serious pedigree breeder. I'd like to thank all the vendors for producing and dressing their sheep to a very high standard, a pleasure to see in the show ring. I was honoured to award Overall Champion to an outstanding stylish shearling ewe from IT Davies & Sons, Lot 1905 - Honddu Julia. Reserve Champion went to a correct shearling ram from D Knowles, Lot 1913 - Wrotham James. It was fantastic to see a strong run of sheep forward despite the current bluetongue situation.”
Huge thanks to Claire for travelling up to a Carlisle to judge and thanks to J Stobart & Sons of Wigton, Cumbria for providing prizes.
In the sale ring, demand was undoubtedly affected by the ongoing Bluetongue situation with a number of buyers having indicated they wouldn’t be buying as a result. The top price was a ewe lamb, Lot 1906 - Honddu Kylie, from I.T. Davies & Som, which sold to Del Knowles for 400gns. Another ewe lamb, Lot 1910- Inside Hype Kitty, from Paul & Lydia Murray, sold for 320gns.
Promising news is that a number of lots went to new or recently joined members, and we hope 2027 will see increased demand at Carlisle if the Bluetongue situation is controlled though nationwide vaccination.
Huge thanks to all the vendors who have supported this new sale with such quality sheep. It was great to hear auction staff comment on the quality and turnout of the Cluns present and as a society we are committed to promoting Cluns in new areas.
