Examples of Clun Rams 1925 to 2019
The following pictures show how Cluns have changed since the formation of the Society in 1925 through the 30's and 40's when they looked more like a Shropshire through the 50's and 60's when appearance changed and the ears rose up from a setting of 'quarter to three' right upto the modern day Clun.

The Royal Agricultural Show of England first had Clun classes in 1927 and these continued up until the last show in 2009.  Here are the RASE pictures...can you add to them?

ROYAL WELSH SHOW 1928 - 2019
The Royal Welsh now is the biggest livestock show in Europe and the won everyone wants to win.  Prior to 1963 it travelled around Wales, but since then it has been held in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, Powys

CRAVEN ARMS FIRST RAM SALE 1925 to 1994
The Clun Forest Ram sale was a sight to be hold in the 1950's and 60's with hundreds of rams on offer peaking at 800 in 1959.  The sale was held in the fields at Craven Arms up until 1970 when it was moved to the market. Here it stayed until 1994, when the last sale was held due to the development of the site and is now held at Ludlow Market

CRAVEN ARMS SECOND RAM SALE 1939 - 1992
The 'Second' ram sale was started in the 1930's to cater for the increasing demand for Clun tups in pre-war Britain.  It was slightly latter than the 'First' sale, which was always the main event, and ran until 1992 when is ceased

C.F.S.B.S. Ewe Sales
The ewe sales of Shropshire were in their day the biggest in Britian with  20,000 ewes sold in a day in the early 1960's to farms all over the country.  The Clun Forest ewe formed the backbone to this sale and the following photos show those sales from c1890 to 2016

ROYAL BATH & WEST SHOW 1936 to 2019
Clun Classes started in 1936 but were not held again until after the war in 1947.  They then ran uninterrupted until they were ceased in 2009.  In 2017 they returned but after a year the classes were lost and are now in the A.O.N.B. Section

SHROPSHIRE &WEST MIDLAND SHOW 1927 to 2019
The Clun Classes started 1927 and ran until 1990 and are now in the A.O.N.B Section

ROYAL HIGHLAND SHOW 1980-1992
Clun Classes 1980 to 1992 with names like Beddie, Croal & Laidlaw regular winners

CFSBS HEREFORD SHOW & SALE
The show & sale ran from 1949 to 2000 and was held at the  Sunderlands Hereford Livestock Market.

CFSBS READING SHOW & SALE
ran between 1955 & 1978 by Thimbleby & Shortland and sold over 5,000 Cluns in its peak in the 1960's

CFSBS SCOTTISH SALE
was first held in 1975 and ceased in 1993.  Initially it was held in Edinburgh and then Perth

CFSBS HANDBOOKS
From the 1950's to the 1980's the society produced handbooks to advertise the virtues and achievements of the breed and it's members. These are the ones we have...do you have any different one in a box in your attic?  There appears to be a big gap between 1960 and 1969....can you fill that gap??
