NEW SECRETARY The C.F.S. secretary, Sandra Williams, has stepped down after 4 years in the role and has overseen many positive changes to the society. If you are a member then there will be a newsletter coming out shortly from the Interim Secretary Fiona Williams of Newcastle-on-Clun introducing herself and updating you all in person. I'm sure you'll all join me in welcoming Fiona into her new role. 2014 FLOCKBOOK The next urgent priority is the 2014 Flockbook, with the change in Secretary and the slowness of some entries this has been delayed slightly, but all the information is now being inputted and it should be posted out to all paid up members by the beginning of July. SUMMER SHOWS To encourage exhibitors the society is going to offer a financial incentive of £10 per entry forward at the RWAS and £5 per entry forward at the TCAS. We will also offer a prize for the Best Clun Fleece entered in the RWAS & TCAS. There will be no change to the classes but all animals must be shown undyed. There will also be a new points system for the Exhibitor of the Year Cup that will incorporate shows outside RWAS, TCAS, Burwarton & Newbury. Therefore if you show Cluns in Fishguard or Kent (any other show in-between) in the Any Other Breed or equivalent section then you can gain points. There will also be a specific Cup for the exhibitor who gains the most points in the A.O.B Section during the year. So get showing!! Steph Thackery (Hayton Flock) has kindly offered to produce a Breed leaflet/flyer, so if you would like to have some to give out at the shows you exhibit at this summer then just send us an email with how many you want. We are also looking at getting a new CFSBS tie, so that we can look smart when in the showring and sales. If there are any members interested in helping with this then just drop us an email. 2014 CUP WINNERS, AGM & LUNCHThe Society this week held their annual Agm and Awards Lunch at The Bear Hotel, Hodnet, Shropshire. Breeders travelled from all over UK to celebrate a very successful year for the society. The Chairman, Roy Reynolds of Edgton, Craven Arms noted that female breed records set at the Autumn Sale and there was top price of £1200 for a shearling ram from Mark Lloyd, Sarnesfield, Herefordshire. It also heralded the launch of the new website ( www.clunforestsheep.org.uk)
The Society also elected a new President in the form of Gordon Roberts, The Furlongs Farm, Ludlow. Mr Roberts flock was established 60 years ago and is a regular prize winner at the society ewe sale. Also this year the society ran a National Flock Competition for the first time since 2005 and it was another well know breeder, Mike Eckley of Hay-on-Wye, who judged and was on hand to give out the Flock Competition Awards. The Champion Flock was one of the UK's oldest, with Mark Lloyd's Sarnesfield Flock, Herefordshire taking the honours; with Roger Elliott's Nene Flock, which is farmed on Princess Diana's family home at Althrope, Northamptonshire winning the Large Flock and the Reserve Championship. The Society Secretary, Sandra Williams of Wollerton provided a Clun lamb which provided a superb lunch. She added it was a great way to finish off the year and an opportunity to meet friends old and new. Pictured are the cup winners from Powys, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Northamptonshire, Kent & Oxfordshire.
